Review: Sephora Make Up Forever High Definition Foundation

by Kimberly Hickok

Change is something I usually embrace and welcome. Some things, however, it’s hard to change. When it comes to hair and makeup I find it especially hard to make a change.

I recently made a change that I couldn’t be happier about. For the last 20-something years I’ve used the same foundation. In the last year or so something changed. It could be the makeup or maybe it’s me. I’m not 25 anymore and I’m sure my skin’s needs are different. Hormonal changes could have something to do with this too. On top of that my skin is super sensitive, so while I knew a change was in order, I was reluctant to do so.

My friend Jennifer suggested I go to Sephora. She was sure that they could help me and, worst case scenario, if I didn’t like the makeup I could always return it.

So this past Saturday morning I took a shower, moisturized my face and headed down to the Sephora located inside JC Penney’s in Clifton Park, NY. To be honest I was a little overwhelmed. Thank goodness Brianna, my Sephora angel, came along to help me out.

Did I mention that my skin is also hard to match? Brianna took a look and tried two different shades. One was too yellow. The other too dark. Then she did the most amazing thing. She took this nifty device, placed it against my face in three areas – along my hairline, neckline and my cheek. The device took a picture of my skin to create a color match.

Impressive! Brianna recommended that Sephora’s Make Up Forever High Definition Foundation would work best for my sensitive skin. There were two possible color matches for me. I ended up being a N160.

These photos aren’t the greatest and haven’t been retouched. I hope you can see the difference in the before and after.

My skin tone is less even. You can especially tell by looking at my cheeks. Also the undereye circles are more pronounced.

BEFORE – My skin tone is less even. You can especially tell by looking at my cheeks. Also the under eye circles are more pronounced.

Skin has a more even look. Under eye circles are less pronounced and it looks very natural.

AFTER – Skin has a more even look. Under eye circles are less pronounced and it looks very natural.

Since I’ve started using this makeup I have been getting a lot of compliments. Some are specific, “Your makeup looks great.” Others say, “You look really good today.” The only thing that’s different is the foundation. My skin hasn’t had any adverse reactions and I really like the coverage and the natural look it gives.

Just the right shade for me – N160.

Change is good.
