If you’ve ever hand-made a gift for someone, you know that feeling you get of nervousness/excitement hoping that the recipient will like what you made. So you can imagine how happy I was that Loren, my stepdaughter, was to receive the fingerless mitts I made for her.
Project details:
- Pattern: Camp Out Fingerless Mitts available on Ravelry
- Yarn: Noro Iro 98 purchased from my local yarn store, Common Thread, in Saratoga Springs, NY

Here’s a closeup of the yarn – a 75% wool/25% silk combo. Really nice to work with and I like how the mitts aren’t so matchy matchy.
These come together quickly. The only ‘special’ technique you’ll need to know is a provisional cast. There are lots of tutorials out there. I used this one.
Loren was thrilled with her gift. I also made a pair of fingerless gloves for her boyfriend using a Patons pattern. Here they are in progress –
Unfortunately these projects only made a small dent in my yarn stash which still looks a lot like this –

Sport weight, cotton, inexpensive acrylic, fingering and Noro. Some I bought but most has been given to me.
I’m still looking for inspiration. What did you make to give away as gifts? Add links to patterns you like in the comment section below. Thanks!

Love those fingerless mitts! I think I should start now and make several for Christmas gifts for next year. 🙂
