My niece and I have been trying to get together for a girls’s weekend a few years ago. We’re always looking for fun things to do . . . besides shop! She’s 17 now and this past summer we enjoyed a fun night out at Saratoga Clay Arts. OMG! So. Much. Fun.
See me in the pic? Look closely and you’ll see my niece Chloe too.
Long story short, their Clay Night Out is a two-hour class where they show you the basics of throwing pottery on a wheel. The instructor Jill, who owns the center, is fantastic. Her instructions are easy to follow and she’s invested in making sure that you make something you can be proud of! You can even BYOB if you like. The class we took cost $45 per person.
I ended up making two small bowls and Chloe did too. When the class is over, you pick the glaze you want for your piece. They glaze and fire it for you and in two weeks . . . voila . . . your pottery is ready for you to pick up.
Take a peek at what we made. We each made two bowls. Not bad for first timers, huh?
I enjoyed it so much that I am seriously thinking about signing up for a membership and making mugs as gifts for everyone next year. Classes are available for all skill levels and you can become a member too.
If you’re looking to explore your creativity or have a fun night out, I urge you to give Saratoga Clay Arts Center a try. Check out their website for more info https://www.saratogaclayarts.org/.
