Granny Square Love

by Kimberly Hickok

I am smitten with granny squares. I’ve already got one project going that will use up some of the primary colors in my yarn stash. This granny square project will use up some of the other colors. I have to confess, though, that I bought three skeins to round out the color palette of my grannies – purple, green and a variegated yellow/orange/red.

I decided to make each square three rounds. Each round is a different color. I am using a size H hook and am joining as I go with an off-white (I call it ‘winter white’) yarn. There are lots of ‘join as you go’ tutorials out there. Just google it, find one you like and go for it!

I started this January 5, 2013. The squares go together really quickly. After I had about 20, I started joining them.

I know I was supposed to use up my stash, but isn’t this purple and green just lovely?

Some of the granny square combos – before they join their friends.

More granny combos. I am really pleased at how well (and how quickly) this is coming together.

I’ll post another update (hopefully soon) that is, if I don’t get sidetracked by another project! I plan on blocking this and adding a border but that could change. You know how it goes.

I’d love to know how you use up your yarn stash. Add a link to your favorite yarn stash project below.
