Strawberries are in season. We can get them year round but the truth is that they taste best when they’re in season. I’ve been making shortcake and lots of smoothies with them. In early summer, when I haven’t yet tired of hot weather (think muggy August days), it’s fun to have a festive cocktail.
I’m not a big fan of sweet drinks so I fiddled with this strawberry margarita recipe until I got it just right. I’m also not a big fan of frozen drinks so this one is more like a slushy. If you want more ice just add more ice.
Simple as that. This recipe makes a margarita for one.
- 1 cup fresh strawberries
- 1 lime, juiced
- 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
- splash of orange juice or Cointreau
- 3-4 ice cubes, preferably crushed
- 1 1/2 ounces of tequila (1 shot)
Place all ingredients in a blender. Whir and you're done. You can rim the glass with sugar, salt or a mixture of the two depending on your mood. Add a strawberry for garnish.
Mark ended up trying mine and I had to wrestle him to get my drink back. I think this recipe could easily be doubled or tripled . . . whatever you need to do to share with others or make yourself a really, really big drink.
