Window Boxes and Containers

by Kimberly Hickok

I love driving past a house that has a beautiful front porch with lovely hanging baskets. Every year I drool over the gorgeous hanging baskets displayed at local greenhouses. Guess what? I don’t have a front porch – BUT I do have a broken down old shed that needs to be dressed up a little bit.

So . . . what to do? How about buy a hanging basket full of gorgeous geraniums and plant it in a window box? Sounds like a plan to me. I picked a zonal geranium with large red showy blooms. A plant that could handle being in full sun most of the day.

The flowers are about 5″ across – huge!

The hanging basket had three plants in it.

I planted one plant in one of the boxes and the other two in this one.

Now my shed doesn’t look so sad any more!

I was on a roll so I took care of the containers on the deck too. Each container has four plants. One Red Fountain Grass, a white Angelonia and two Petunias with a double blossom on them.

Great photos! I love geraniums and they sure make your shed cozy looking. I’m not familiar with the white angelonia and will be checking that out. That petunia does look like a rose!
