No Sorting Required

by Kimberly Hickok

One of our biggest jobs as parents is to make sure that our kids can stand on their own two feet. We insisted that our kids do their own laundry. I felt this was especially important for our son.

I painstakingly showed him how to sort colors and use the different washer cycles and he’s been doing his own laundry since he was about 16. So when we dropped him off at college last month, I patted myself on the back knowing that he wouldn’t have any trouble adjusting to doing his own laundry.

I figured that between his excellent laundry skills and the university’s Laundry View system, he would be all set.  Laundry View is pretty cool. It lets students know which machines are available. Students can even get a text or an email that lets them know when their laundry is done. Sweet!

Let’s just say that he was mostly set up for success. I sent him with a hamper and laundry bag but forgot to include detergent and dryer sheets. When I asked him about the laundry situation the other day, I fully expected him to give me a hard time about not making sure he had detergent.

I couldn’t have been more wrong! Instead he told me all about how wonderful Tide® Pods and Shout® Color Catchers are. ‘The best part, Mom, is that you don’t even have to measure detergent or sort colors,’ he tells me.

So all that color sorting training went out the window thanks to the Shout® Color Catchers!

I never thought I would get a laundry tip from my 18-year-old son. I guess you learn something new every day.
