Snowmobiling on Prospect Mountain

by Kimberly Hickok

Mark is an avid snowmobiler. He goes to Canada every winter for a trip with the guys. I enjoy it too but can’t always take the time to go. I made an exception this past Friday. I took the day off and we headed north to Lake George, NY.

Prospect Mountain is open for driving and hiking in the warmer months. In the winter, however, the road and trails are groomed to accommodate snowmobilers.

We covered a little over 40 miles and had a wonderful time. After our morning ride we had a burger and a beer at The Garrison. Definitely not four star dining but our burgers were perfectly cooked and the beer was cold. If you live within driving distance of Lake George and enjoy snowmobiling I would highly recommend the Prospect Mountain trail.

The day was overcast. Otherwise the mountain views would have been spectacular. Lake George village is below.

Me in my “hot” snowmobile gear.

An abandoned, burned up car along the trail. How the heck did it get there???

You just made me miss real snow. I got a taste of it when I went to PA a couple of weekends ago and dare say I miss it more having had a little taste. What we get here in Eastern North Carolina cannot be classified as real snow, just a mess. Thanks for the memory.
