Believe it or not, cranberry sauce is one of the easiest things to make – especially if you like it with whole cranberries. It’s also one of those things you can make in advance. I make it every year for Thanksgiving. If I don’t, my brother-in-law Brian will kill me!
One year I forgot to make it until about a half hour before we sat down to eat. This recipe is so easy to make that I whipped it up just in time! It was a little warm but no one seemed to mind.
Easy Cranberry Sauce Serves 6-8 as a side dish 12 oz. bag of Ocean Spray Cranberries 1/4 cup water 1/2 cup cranberry juice 1/2 cup orange juice 3 tablespoons sugar zest of half an orange (optional)Place the cranberries in a medium sauce pan. Remove any cranberries that are bruised. Add the water, cranberry juice, orange juice and sugar. Cover and bring to a boil. Once it comes to a boil, remove the lid and lower the heat allowing the sauce to simmer until it thickens.
Taste. If you want it sweeter add more sugar – a tablespoonful at a time – until it tastes right to you. Simmer another five minutes. Remove from heat and add the zest.
That’s it!
