2011 Saratoga Wine, Food & Ferrari Fall Festival
I spent last Saturday at the Wine, Food & Ferrari Fall Festival in Saratoga. Apparently this humble little blog caught the attention of the Italian Trade Commission. They reached out to me and invited me to attend as their guest. I had to think about it – hmmm, let’s see . . . Italian food, wine, fast cars AND beautiful weather??!!?? Let’s just say they made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. (Sorry but I couldn’t help myself.) I was disappointed that I was unable to attend Kevin Zraly’s wine seminar. I stood in line but didn’t have a pink ticket. I...

In April we went to Naples, Florida for our annual visit with my mother-in-law. Every year we go to one of our favorite restaurants, The Dock Restaurant at Crayton Cove. We also try to do something new. On this visit we went to the Naples Botanical Garden. One of the first things we saw when we entered the garden was something that made us feel right at home. We live near Saratoga Springs, NY. Saratoga Water, in its distinct blue bottle, is everywhere. And what did we see? We headed over to the Butterfly House in the Children’s Garden. After that we just took our time and strolled...

If you’re a 40-something like me you probably remember special family meals eaten at a table set with crisp linens. Or maybe you remember being tucked into a bed with a candle wicked or chenille bedspread. Unless you were lucky enough to have these wonderful items passed on to you, they’re hard to find. Guess what? I stumbled upon a charming shop that is an answer to my vintage-linen prayers. Daisy Dry Goods, located at 28 Front Street in Ballston Spa NY, has more than vintage table linens and bedspreads. They also have vintage clothes, purses and jewelry. If you’re looking...

I am not in the habit of reviewing restaurants. I may not have the most ‘educated’ palate but I know what I like AND I know what is good. New World Bistro Bar is good – very good. We had dinner there with our friends John and Hilary. They are world travelers and have just moved back to the US after living abroad in Africa for 10 years. We all agreed that our meals were fabulous. This blog post is about our overall experience – not a culinary critique. For starters John had the Steamed Littlenecks with Garbanzos and Rabes. I thought the greens would make the delicate...

This is my photo blog of our day snowmobiling in the Adirondacks. The day was perfect – the weather was gorgeous and the trails were in great shape. Here’s the route the six of us took (three couples): We started out in Indian Lake – about a 2-hour car ride from our home. We parked and unloaded at the end of Cedar River Road. We picked up the trail, riding over Moose River Plains to Inlet. We had lunch at The Ole Barn and then rode across Fourth Lake to Uncas Road. After that we headed up to Raquette Lake and had a cocktail on the W Durant. Then we headed back. We covered...

Mark is an avid snowmobiler. He goes to Canada every winter for a trip with the guys. I enjoy it too but can’t always take the time to go. I made an exception this past Friday. I took the day off and we headed north to Lake George, NY. Prospect Mountain is open for driving and hiking in the warmer months. In the winter, however, the road and trails are groomed to accommodate snowmobilers. We covered a little over 40 miles and had a wonderful time. After our morning ride we had a burger and a beer at The Garrison. Definitely not four star dining but our burgers were perfectly cooked and...
