A Beautiful Life
It had been a long day. I’d just driven three hours from New Jersey in some pretty crappy weather after attending an all day conference. I was tired, hungry and just a little cranky. As I pull into the garage door, the cellar door opens and Lexie comes running to meet me with a big smile on her face. I open the car door and she jumps in, giving me kisses. Now that’s the way to be welcomed home! I go up the stairs and the rest of the family greets me. Lexie is still jumping up and down and I notice that she’s still ‘smiling’ – except something is a little...

I spend a lot of time talking about food – from tips on growing your own food to ways to prepare it. Since today is the first ever Food Day I thought I’d spend some time talking about Capital District Community Gardens (CDCG). First of all, what exactly is Food Day? According to the Food Day website, Food Day is all about pushing for “healthy, affordable food produced in a sustainable, humane way”. Interestingly enough CDCG’s mission is “to nourish healthy communities by providing access to fresh food and green spaces for all”. The Food Day...
Read MoreSharing is Dying
One of the major skills we were expected to learn in kindergarten was how to share. For me it wasn’t that hard. As the oldest of five children, I was always sharing something – the bathroom, TV, phone. I even had to, horror of horrors, share my bedroom! Yes. Even in our large four bedroom home in the burbs, I had to share a room. What choice did I have? My parents insisted on taking one of the bedrooms and they let our brother, the only male child, have his own room. Whatever. Things have really changed in the last 20 years. I love technology. I work for a web development...
Read MoreSnowmobiling on Prospect Mountain
Mark is an avid snowmobiler. He goes to Canada every winter for a trip with the guys. I enjoy it too but can’t always take the time to go. I made an exception this past Friday. I took the day off and we headed north to Lake George, NY. Prospect Mountain is open for driving and hiking in the warmer months. In the winter, however, the road and trails are groomed to accommodate snowmobilers. We covered a little over 40 miles and had a wonderful time. After our morning ride we had a burger and a beer at The Garrison. Definitely not four star dining but our burgers were perfectly cooked and...
Read MoreI Think I Can
I think I can do it all. Honestly. I really think I can. And most days I do. Not well, of course. But that’s besides the point. Like most working women I wear a number of hats. I work full time doing sales and marketing for Web Instinct. I sit on two boards – professionally NY Capital Region AMA and for an organization that’s close to my heart Capital District Community Gardens. I do the books for my husband’s business. Between the two of us we have two daughters, one married with children and one in college. Our son is a sophomore in high school. He plays sports...
Read MoreBeing Polite Will NOT Kill You
This is a busy time of year. Preparation for the holidays has begun. The stores are packed. The roads are jammed. Sometimes we get so focused on what we’re doing that we forget to be polite. I noticed that the other day when leaving a sports event at my son’s school. A young man held the door and at least ten people walked through without noticing him or saying thank you. That made me think about where I need to improve and it reminded me of all the things my mother taught me. Those same principles apply on the roads and in this digital age. Here goes: Always say...
