Izzy and the Skunk

Clothes on Deck

If you stopped by our house on a recent Sunday morning. You would have seen our clothes (including underwear) draped over our deck. No matter how hard you let your imagination run wild, it’s unlikely that you would come up with the story of what really happened the night before.

It went something like this . . .

It was shaping up to be the perfect Saturday night after a beautiful day. Earlier in the day our youngest headed back to college. And, much as we will miss him, we were giving each other high fives and doing the happy dance because we now had the house back to ourselves. Yes!

After a quiet dinner, we walked over to our next door neighbor’s and helped them break their new fire pit in. Everything was going great. The night was beautiful, the wine was good and the company was great. Our dog, Izzy, was with us and she was having a ball investigating our neighbor’s yard which she (usually) doesn’t get to visit.

She wandered off and then came running back toward us, shaking her head vigorously and acting like she was in distress. As she got closer, the unmistakable whiff of skunk came our way.

Sadly we’ve been through this before with a previous dog. After that incident, we decided that we would ALWAYS keep Nature’s Miracle Skunk Odor Remover in the house.Natures Miracle Skunk Odor Remover

Mark ran to the house and got the odor remover and a couple of towels. I stayed outside holding Izzy. Then we put the odor remover on, let it sit for five minutes, then rinsed and toweled her off. The we stripped down, leaving our skunky clothes outside to air out, and got dressed.

Having gone through this before, I didn’t want Izzy to sleep inside so we camped out on the screened porch. Thankfully I had a spare dog bed for her and I used a sleeping bag and blankets. I lit a fire to keep her warm because she was damp from her bath.

Yes, I know. She’s spoiled.

It was actually pretty comfy sleeping on the porch.

Let me tell you, this stuff really works. By the morning, there was only the faintest odor of skunk so we gave her another bath and that did the trick. You can also add a cap full of odor remover to your laundry to remove the skunk odor from your clothes. I did that too.

So, if you live in an area where there are skunks I highly recommend keeping some of this stuff on hand. It’s better to be prepared than be sorry. You can find it at your local pet store or click on the link here and order from Amazon. It’s worth it!!!
