Out & About: Yaddo in Saratoga Springs, NY

by Kimberly Hickok

Last year I got a new toy – a Canon sx10is ultra zoom camera. I love taking pictures. I’m not a pro but I’m glad to have a camera with lots of powerful features. I’ve been looking for opportunities to use more of its features. Fall is perfect for taking pictures.

The subject of this post is Yaddo in Saratoga Springs, NY. The 400-acre estate was built in 1900 and is a haven for those that are artistically inclined. The environment there is conducive to creativity and artists can be inspired to create – without interruption.

I am not an artist. These photos are about as creative as I get! Enjoy these autumn pictures in the Yaddo gardens which are open to the public.

Entrance to the rose garden

A rose up close – there were hundreds of rose bushes – gorgeous!
I gotta get me a sun dial. I just think they’re so cool.

Steps with golden shadows

The woods were pretty dark, so this exercise was all about playing with light and shadows. Improvement is definitely needed but . . . wait for it . . . you get the picture. Sorry, couldn’t help myself. Happy Fall!
